1. If you're an adult, it's okay to feel uncomfortable letting your kid read something. Talk to your kid and find out what he or she can or cannot handle. If you still don't want your kid to read something, then talk to his or her teacher about alternatives.
2. If you're a kid and you come across something you feel uncomfortable reading, talk to your teacher and your parents. Growing up isn't easy, and some topics are tough to deal with. The best way to become a well-adjusted adult is to talk to adults about what you're going through. There are people out there who will understand and can help.
3. Be forewarned that I have no compunction about using strong language on this site.
4. I am reasonably sure that reading any of the books I mention here are not going to make you grow up into a murderous perverted pagan.
